“Doing”, the Word!

If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?

But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.  Deuteronomy 30: 10-14

Early in Jewish history the Torah spoke of, “doing”, the word as you can see in the above scripture reference from the Old Testament which involved the Mosaic Law given to the Israelites by Moses. This was the Old Covenant.  Then, many years later as prophesied, Jesus came saying this:

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.  For verily I say unto you Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Matthew 5:17-18

Jesus then reinforced and clarified what the Jewish writings of old were actually saying because the people would get involved in the technicality of the law instead of the meaning.  He had this to say to the Pharisees when asked by one, who was a lawyer, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?”  Jesus replied:

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.  Matthew 22:37-40

Jesus tells us in the parable of the sower that the seed is, the word.  That you must get it down into good soil for it to truly grow.  This is what we have to do with the word of God, get it into the depths of your very being so it can grow to giant proportions.  He came performing many miracles, showing us what faith in God can do when you are speaking the word.  In the book of John it tells us Jesus is the very, Word, manifest:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.  The same came for a witness, to bear witnesss of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.  John 1:1-14

It says in the above scripture that he, came unto his own, the Jewish people, but they received him not, but it goes on to say that those who did receive him, his very essence, the words, which were the word of God, and the power of God which was in him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God!  Then it goes on to say even if you believe on his name, that is, the authority within him, you will be born, of God!  This is the re-birth he spoke of for believers!

Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?  the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself; but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.  Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very works sake.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.  If you love me, keep my commandments. John 14: 10-15

This scripture is huge!  Here, Jesus tells us himself how all of the miracles, the works were possible; “it is the Father who dwelleth in me, he doeth the works”.  He tells us that, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also: and greater works than these shall he do: because I go unto my Father.”  Then he tells us, “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”  Glory to God, this is powerful scripture which helps guide us in our spiritual life.  We are to receive by faith, the words which Jesus spoke, believing, knowing that the power of God is in us, when we believe on him, or believe, he says, because of the very works sake; then, if ye shall ask any thing in my name, He says, I will do it.

I AM the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.  Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.  Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

Abide in me, and I in you, As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same brinngeth forth much fruit for without me ye can do nothing.  If a man abide not in me he is cast forth as a branch and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.  Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.  If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.  These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.  John 15: 1-12

This shows the believer how to achieve the power filled life!  We are to walk, live, abide in love, for it also says in the scriptures, God is love!  Then we are told that we will bear much fruit, for it says, without me you can do nothing.  But with God all things are possible!  Jesus showed us this time and again, repeating that it is your faith which made you whole, your faith which healed you, because of your mighty faith!  Glory to God, we must have faith, for all things come about by faith!

In the book of James, who is believed to have been Jesus brother, he says this.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only deceiving your own selves.  For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass.  For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.  But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. James 1: 22-25

This brings the believer to new heights, living the power- filled life!  Being, doers of the word!  Know, that God is in you, and you in God, with Christ and the power of the Word, which is not just words on a  page, as we have discussed before but is the very, supernatural power of God!

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.  Isaiah 55:11

Until next time, may we all be filled with the Word of God so that we all may be a blessing to one another, loving and doing, being doers of the Word!  Glory to God, light and love to all!
